  1. I started out loving what they did, but it went downhill quick. Walk into the living room—looks great! Floors look good, they fixed the fireplace, staging is on point, and then they walked into the kitchen, and that’s where things went south. It feels wedged in, with the staircase there. It’s got zero color, so it looks sterile (not in a good way). The finishes (cabinet pulls, tile backsplash) are too feminine. And you have to stand on your head to use the microwave. The paint job on the stair rail and spindles is horrible—big globs of dried paint everywhere. Maybe they were in a rush? The tile on the front of the steps is weird. Upstairs that master bedroom is again way too girly—pink walls and a gaudy gold chandelier? Looks almost like a bordello. The bathroom is enormous, and it makes me wonder where they took space from to make it that big. Using the same tile on the walls and the floor is risky, and that risk did not pay off here. I’m beginning to see why this show is called “Good Bones”—the fundamentals are fine, and their ability to build is second to none, but that’s where the good stops—the finishes are usually a misfire.

  2. The problem with remodels/fixeruppers is that it will always cost you more than you planned for. Like way more. It happens all the time to everyone. I've fixed old houses before, and you ALWAY run into surprises that cost you a lot of money. Sometimes to the pint you are upside down on your oroject. This one was a lot of work but turned out good.

  3. Honestly, I think they missed the mark when it comes to staging it. WAAAAAAAY too much "stuff" and my eye cannot rest. I like the tile choices, but I am shaking my head on the staging. A big thumbs down for it.

  4. Even though this reno budget was quite big, generally this show really does good reno work with high quality finishes on a decent budget, and then they don't sell the house for that much for all the work they did put in. $25,000 profit is tiny. I really don't know who risks $190,000 for the reward of $25,000. Most people would put that on a renters market for 5 years and then sell it on. Give me $190,000 I could probably make that in a week on one EURUSD trade. They have good hearts because I know they are just improving the area and still trying to keep everything affordable.
