Today on Modern Builds, I’m going to show you how to make the ultimate MAKER desk! I’ve been trying a lot of new techniques lately including metal bending, working with plate steel, and trying out different shapes of tube steel. I wanted this desk to be a practical case study of my recent experiments in making. It’s not perfect, but I’m really happy with how unique it is.

  1. It would be great if you did a standing desk or even better one that can be adjusted to both regular height as well as standing height, just a request/idea. Thanks for your videos man!

  2. Hey Mike, I'm digging the metal/wood ratio. I think it would work the other way too. I'd be interested in seeing your take on a table with a zinc top and wood base.

  3. Now I wouldn't say this desk is efficient in the amount of material it takes. You could hold a damn car on those steel profiles… For a desk, I'd go way thinner…

  4. 7:28 – See those big black long ugly seams on the tubing? They're visible even after you paint or powdercoat the metal. Always face the side of the tube with the seam away from you so you won't see it after it's finished.

  5. Great project and sharp looking table!!!
My only concern would be your welding,. Your using a flux core welder so you should be pulling the gun on every weld. I noticed your using yiur gun like a gas mig welder. Also, that tip is for shielding gas…
