DIY MotorCycle Security Ground Anchor Easy Welding Project

A fairly easy welding project, al ground anchor for home, garage or yard security. Made this for my motorbike but unsure wether to bolt it to the floor or to the wall.

The materials are a piece of thick 17mm steel approx 4 inch wide and 8 inches long. This was given to me as scrap some time back (one mans treasure video) and ive used it in a wood burner and to repair my home woodburner, theres a bit of a curve to it and you can see me smack the curve out at in the video.
The round bar I bought for £5 or so to make the propane valve tool, nice thick wall at 7mm which is no2 gauge? Bought from the local metal merchant as an offcut. Ive got a fair bit of this left so the cost there for this project has been minimal. You could make these for money i reckon, dont know how much you could charge though?

The basic tools needed are a grinder, welder, wire wool brush, drill, i used a bandsaw but a grinder would have cut through the steel eventually.
Welding, make sure that the steel is clean, this has been my problem mostly when making stuff. Make sure that where the negative clamps on is also clean and that a good contact is there.
I used 3.2mm rods and took it slow and easy, getting much better, a couple of small areas that arent great but on the whole good penetration and a decent flow between the two metals joining them together. Went back and did a second pass in some areas as well as on the corners.
The pillar drill is a great help in drilling the holes but it could be done with a smaller corded drill i reckon. If youve got the workshop space then see if you can find yourself a pillar drill, you get some really good results from them and you break less drill bits than in a corded

These ground anchors are good for slowing burglars down, its all about time, slowing them down so that there is more of a chance of them getting caught or not having good enough tools that will destroy the lock.

  3. Do those neighbours have young children, Because I saw a acrid smoke like that coming out of some doughnuts house, The neighbour came out and told me the woman was burning used disposable nappies in the fire again

  4. Might ad some time if the fastener holes were in line with the chain. That way, the chain would interfere with tampering with the bolts. In any case, a grinder with the right wheel will make fast work of any chain…just noisey.
