Toilet Flange Installation on New Construction – Closet Flange

This video shows how to install a toilet closet flange on new construction. I begin with a soil pipe coming out of the concrete floor, and end with an installed flange on a finished tile floor. With the proper tools, anyone can do this.
Here’s a link for the flange that I used:

  1. Phil, great video, thank you. I am installing a toilet on a wooden floor. I have six coats of water based polyurethane, but nothing else. I am worried about what would happen in the event of a leak that goes unnoticed. Any suggestions on something to protect the floor? It's an old Victorian house and I don't want to tile the wood. By the way, Phil, great tip on suggesting your favorites… big note here for you, if you put a link here to Amazon so we can click on it and purchase that item, you will get commission and believe me, it adds up. You should do it to make it not only easier on us to find the thing you sold us on, but to help your own income. We get that. If you sell us on it, we are happy for you to get something from it, rather than us trying to find it separately and you not getting anything for the well done marketing. I thought your video was well done and I understand the conflict in the flange height argument.

  2. I never use the metal flange kind. Too many times I have replaced/repaired them because the metal rots away in a relatively short amount of time.

  3. And to all those that say the flange needs to (or must) sit on top of the finished floor; Many times I have pulled up the linoleum and installed ceramic tile that usually comes out even with the top of the toilet flange. It's not a problem. A standard wax rig w/flange will work just fine and there will be no leaks.

  4. If you use cement in the drain pipe, why not use a bit of primer as well? That doesn't make sense to me, as priner ensures a proper bonding of the 2 pipes.
