  1. These water hammer arrestors are rated by fixture unit ratings. The basic unit number is 1 per unit. (Includes both valves) "The sizing of sanitary drainage systems is based on a unit of measurement called the fixture unit. Each plumbing fixture has a unit rating which is calculated by considering the rate of discharge, the frequency of use and the time between each use of a plumbing fixture. The fixture unit rating represents the hydraulic load placed by that fixture on the sanitary drainage system." So for a toilet, tub and sink you get a total of 3. Be sure to buy the appropriate size arrestor for the number of valves on your branch line. This may be why some toilette's still hammer after installation. The installer or home owner may have used an arrestor to small for the number of units on their water line. Don't be that husband. Do your homework or your wife will secretly hate when you say "I can fix it".
