This video is a response to a video I made previously suggesting that you should cap any open the vent pipes, but that was before I knew about air admittance valves. I would also like to point out that some building departments do not approve of their use because they are mechanical devices that can fail.

  1. Dumb ass the main reason is that sewer gasses will flow out of an open sewer pipe. The methane that vents out of a pipe could even fill the room and create a possible explosion.

  2. 1:02 If you flush a toilet, wouldn't that toilet be vented so that water wouldn't be syphoned out of the p-trap of the lav? And, is it permitted to join PVC to ABS as in the image?

  3. I've had one for years where I replaced an S-trap and it works great! You have to make it accessible though in case they need replacement, but it's far better than nothing!
