  1. The only thing worse than this awful design is the husband. First, the design: I hope they love that island, since it’s the only place they have to eat. And those shelves, which cut across the windows—horrible!! Should have closed off one of the windows and done upper cabinets. Then there are the gym lockers in the family room—awful choice. But none of that compares to how much I didn’t like the husband. Taking money out of your retirement so you can spend $90k on a swimming pool is beyond stupid. Like way beyond. And then to say your kids “don’t have a home.” When I heard him say that I was like, oh no you didn’t. Because the kids are living with their grandparents. It’s not like they are out on the street, shivering in the cold and begging for food. He is the poster child for white privilege. Horrible.

  2. It is just unbelievable that the suppliers of cabinets, flooring, tile, appliances, countertops, plumbing and electrical supplies and fixtures (faucets, sinks, lights) and laborers don't give homeowners all of these things for free! Imagine having to pay for all of this, plus professional costs for an architect or engineer to guarantee the integrity of the build. For everyone commenting on the estimated $65,000.00 cost of the kitchen build, do you not have to pay for the things you purchase? Also, this cost included renovating the living area and a bedroom. Certainly they could have chosen less expensive materials, but, as the saying goes: "You get what you pay for". They were spending more on a pool that will certainly get less use than the kitchen will. I suspect this family is looking at this as being their forever home, so spending more makes sense.

  3. Priorities priorities, 90k on a pool, and they r talking about sacrifices, the kitchen I can understand I've seen people spend 40,000euros on a kitchen first hand, and yes I know this is in the states

  4. Interestingly, the work they husband & friends did was all up to code and there were plans that had been drawn up by a professional prior to this. (Notice that the 'contractor' didn't even catch the vertical strap issue.) And, they ended up putting the sink, range etc exactly where they had thought they might. All this really was was a 'come finish' my home. Nothing was really wrecked.

  5. The grandparents will be very happy to have to sit on those high chairs every time they come for dinner for the next few decades. Not exactly an elderly-friendly design.
