Rotted RV Slide Out Floor Repair – Fixed Manufacturer Flaw

See the update video on this repair months later. How did it work? – https://www.loveyourrv.com/10-recent-rv-repairs-how-are-they-performing/

In this video, I get busy repairing a rotten section of my large slide-out room floor in my 2011 276RLS Keystone Cougar fifth wheel.

A roughly 17″ x 45″ section of plywood needed to be cut out and replaced with a fresh piece. Over the years water intruded and slowly turned the 3/4″ plywood at the back corner of the slide to mush.

I was quite disappointed because even though I stay on top of my routine sealant maintenance, the damage was from a manufacturer flaw. The bottom of the slide wall doesn’t have adequate flashing and over time water wicks into the exposed flooring.

  1. What kind of flooring did you put back down? That looks like a carpet or rug, I like it. I'm doing the same repair right now. Keystone Springdale.

  2. One small thing I would suggest is to cover the seam underneath because water slung up when driving on a wet road will be slung inti the joint between the new and old panel. Not a critique, just an observation

  3. we just pulled our sofa out because we decided to replace with two new RV recliners…I was shocked to see daylight and a rotted floor. very disappointing to say the least. we have a repair man coming to fix it but the crazy thing is our friend has the same camper just a year newer pulled her couch out and the same was found. awful… we never noticed any issue so had to have missed it…we are seasonal campers and once the slider is out we kind of forget about it…

  4. thx for a useful and informative vid…I have the same problem on 3 slideouts, except the entire floors need to come out. as far as I'm concerned, the whole RV industry is a criminal operation…absolutely shoddy construction and material quality

  5. Thank you, I picked up a 2008 heartland fifth wheel and they people we bought it from did a great job hiding lots water damage on the slide outs. Ours has that same problem and that's were the waters come in. We've sealed it up till it can be felt with but this gives us hope it's fixable
