Installing a Chinese Squat Toilet

Here is how I installed a Chinese squat toilet. It was not easy to purchase this squat toilet, and I had to work directly with a manufacturer to import it. It had no installation instructions, so I used some instructions from a similar style squat toilet to get an idea of how to install it. I went with an adapter box, and two separate attempts at installing it, compensating for the “unique” geometry the second time. Overall this turned out pretty well, and we use the squat toilet daily.

IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A SQUAT TOILET:
I purchased the unit from a seller on Alibaba. I requested a “sample”. Unfortunately they did not tell me how much the shipping would be up front, and it ended up being something like $700 if I recall correctly. That was with DHL Express I believe. I recommend UPS or a different shipping courier perhaps. The toilet and cistern themselves were only around $50.

That said, the domestic sellers in the USA for these squat toilets are generally out of business or out of stock. It’s surprisingly difficult to find them. Your best bet is Ebay if you want to order it more “locally”. Otherwise you can try to acquire from: India, China, Japan, or certain countries in Europe. It is difficult to get them from other countries if you do not speak the language. I considered ordering hundreds of units and reselling them myself; however, I was not confident I would be able to sell them, or warehouse them very well. If I wanted to further pursue the endeavor I would likely domestically produce them so that I had control over the design and quality.

  1. Is there a vendor in US where these squat toilets can be purchased? I think I would have installed it so that your feet are level when using it. I designed a squat platform that sits on top of a western-style toilet. It's perfectly level, and it works fine. What motivated you to install a squat toilet in your home?

  2. That's not saw dust! You should have cleaned it before showing it after a week dude, omg. hahahahha. great install video though! I am doing my own right now.
