how did it hold up almost 4 years to the day? I'm having the same issue with ceiling height, and have done more or less the same thing. My bulkhead is going to be about 16-20' long however, I'm wondering if it's going to be possible for the drywall to be butt-jointed without a cross beam. I might end up having to sacrifice 0.5" height with furring strips…
