We did the gel stain also but after two coats we did two coats of poly. If you do that, you will not have the wear you are experiencing,.

I’m doing a remodel in my moms finished basement and I had the same idea which is why I looked for videos that did the same. I told my mom, let’s check Ollie’s, once this pandemic is over! I’m looking for same exact natural sea grass carpets too! Happy to know I may have luck coming across some there.
Tip* anyone wanting to do this if you don’t want to add staples/nails to treads, like they did, you can buy a roll of 2-sided carpet tape to hold carpet in place and keep debris from going underneath the carpet.
