Build your own multi-function stomp box / tambourine / cajon

If you are a musician, you might consider making your own stompbox. They are very easy to make with whatever tools and wood you can find. Assembling the electrical parts is a snap and they only cost a few dollars. I had fun jazzing up my version with tambourine cymbals and a snare, but just a simple box works great.

What you will need is a Piezo Transducer (an electronic pickup). There are various types available in many places such as Amazon.com. If you want to buy one locally, here’s one you can get at Radio Shack:

You might want to look around for a bass pickup, which will give you a much deeper sound.

And you will need a 1/4″ phone jack to hook the box to an amplifier. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103454 />
