Save yourself a lot of time and effort get a pair of high back clamps from visegrip and Weld 2 angle pieces on the end and you got yourself a pair of pipe clamps! If you grind in the other direction your finish will look much nicer, it will help you avoid those flat spots that you get from grinding along the length of the pipe. I weld handrail pipe all the time! Also if that’s 7014 your using try turning the amps up a little higher and don’t weave or whip the weld just drag in a straight line….. weld will come out sweet!
