But here in this – steps to building a house timeline – we combine that information to give you an idea what you might generally expect if you were to have a house built from scratch. Maybe you are thinking about new home construction and if it is something you want to take on. If you were thinking “I want to build a house, where do I start”, then maybe this overview will help you envision the process. There are many parts. The timeline for steps to building a house will vary with the builder, the size of the house and the materials used.
In this video we look at fairly typical house. The steps to building a house from the ground up are similar from house to house. Some builders speed the process by using pre-made exterior wall sections which are shipped to the building site. The roof can be placed quicker by using trusses. It all depends on the builder.
Houses are built in a combination of steps or parts. Some of those steps covered are:
– Vacant lot
– Site prep
– Foundation laid
– Rough under-slab plumbing
– Slab is poured
– Framing – exterior & interior
– Roofing
– Windows and doors
– Interior plumbing
– Electrical
– HVAC
– Insulation
– Exterior siding
– Interior finishes
– Landscaping
Often times the steps in building a house may be completed simultaneously as different trades work around or near each other at the same time. Nonetheless, the order of the new home construction process completion is fairly similar. This video is simply to provide an overview to a complex process.

Great video! Thank you.
i love learning about this kind of stuff!! my question is, how do you find a good contractor who won’t overcharge you.!?
Typical American house.. can't even withstand heavy wind such as tornado. Maintenance cost is high, water leak can be very costly. You also have to worry about termites, bugs that wants to eat your house. Those house are not made to last for generation. Once you finish paying the cost for this house (typically 30 years), it will most likely be unlivable with massive maintenance cost.
Looks little bit weak…have you seen Scandinavian houses?
I’ve read the PEX tubing makes the water taste and smell bad. I’d be inclined to go with good old copper piping.
