  1. I see they don’t have to use the doors with the big braces on the inside like the ones that have to be installed in Florida for hurricane code.

  2. I can't believe they still use those old extension springs! I love the torsion springs because they're so much safer and are so easily adjustable to make the garage door float.

  3. There's no legs at the top of the flags he have mourn enough headroom the put torsion In with extension Springs everything has to be level in order for the door to work correctly for a long period of time Into boot his using 2 different types of rollers there's no end On the garage door just wood which Will Rot out

  4. There is a lot of info he left out so if someone that’s never done it before might get it to work but it would never work right
There are a lot of moving parts on a garage door and if they all don’t work together
then you just built a big pile of shit .
It’s hard to beat a man at his own game and this is my game

  5. Nice explanation. Thanks guys. I don’t need this knowledge right now, but after I accidentally got here, I stopped and listened. Nice and clear interesting way of talking. And these trade skills also seams interesting, after learning about all those small details.

  6. I’ve just started a job installing overhead garage doors. I love it. It’s not that hard and it’s a good learning experience. I hate the extension spring doors. Pay the extra money and get a motor with belt drive.

  7. first of all these are extension springs which are outlawed, and even if they still make them somewhere they are not the typical spring. The torsion spring is what most people have on their homes. H does not put the cable on until after he put the bottom panel into the opening, and he puts the roller on with the vertical track, this is not the way to do it, the because when its time to put the cable on the roller and the track will be in the way, he should hook the cables on first before all that. Know body drills a pilot hole either for the hinges, it would probably strip out the screw when you go to put it in, just like it did in one shot in the video. He also put the top fixture on upside down. There is a lot he did not show you on the video and most garages do not have that much working room. Its a lot harder then they make it look.

  8. IMO that is a job you hire out. Also installing a well sealed, insulated garage door makes a huge difference in the energy efficiency of your house. Here in the south, the "basement" hangout for the kids/teenagers is the rec room/bonus room over the garage. I know after my parents installed well insulated/weather tight garage doors back in the late 90's, the temps in that room above the garage were warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer by a few degrees. Don't know how much, but you could tell a difference after installing those air tight/insulated garage doors in the room above the garage.

  9. How about efficiency is Speed and Quality? So, I'd say it is about speed, quality, and competitive pricing. Always getting the new business and word-of-mouth…. @EduSafetyMed for improved human performance

  10. I live in Southern California, and I usually don't see this type of spring for garage doors.
I'm not sure whether it's regional thing, but this type of spring seems to be easier for homeowner to change if it breaks.

  11. This very informative. I live in Florida and some how it is different. The put the tension spring on the wall on top of the garage door with a metal bar. Great video

  12. Always level the bottom section. If the door is too far off of level it will eventually throw a cable. I have cases in new construction where freshly poared concrete isn't even level.

  13. Those steel cable brackets can cut through the cable after several years of use. To prevent this, you can use a steel cable eye loop thingie (not sure what it's called, but a couple bucks at hardware store).

  14. Only reason I use a ratchet on the track nuts is if my impact gun doesn’t fit. Like if there’s a wall or some other structure in my way. Also I hate extension springs. We always use front torsion springs on a shaft. Those extension springs break and can go flying around and hurt someone really bad. Even with the safety cable. Front torsion can break but they stay on the shaft. Also you can always adjust the front torsion spring after it wears over time. If you have extension springs, ask for a conversion kit from your local garage company. And find a company who sells C.H.I. garage doors. Clopay, Safeway, and others are usually hard to work on because the parts aren’t made anymore.

  15. Tom should have described the numbering system on the hinges as they relate to the door sections. The door sections are numbered and installed in ascending order. The bottom section with the floor seal is section 1. The left and right hinges hold the rollers at an increasing distance from the door section on each successive section to accommodate the slope away from the wall of the vertical door track. Center hinges (which don't have rollers and whose number vary based on the width of the sections) on all sections are labeled "1". The left and right hinges between sections 1 & 2 of a four-section door are labeled with a "1". Between 2 & 3 labeled "2" and so on based on the number of sections.

  16. I follow this tips and the Manuel some how my door is not heady enough to hit the floor, the tension on the spring is enough to open the 7ft of my garage door I did a test to add more weight and it work but I can’t add to bc it suppose to be normal any suggestions thanks in avance

  17. If you follow these directions there’s a good chance your door will not run right. They left out two very important pieces of information.

    1. After installing both side tracks measure from the roller to the top of the verticals track on both sides, adjust the height of the tracks so they are even.

    2. Both cables must be an even length before installing the 3 hole clip and S hook.

  18. I really want for you to know that watching these videos literally have changed my life. With everything that is going on these days. I really just can't explain how important it is to me that when ever I dont completely understand something. I can come home, watch a couple episodes of this old house and not only improve my handyman skills. But as of late I have felt comfortable enough to call myself a carpenter. Only once or twice, but still.
I mean I learned floating shelve, charged 50 a pop. 100 for stained.
That episode on how to repair a sagging deck. GOD, IF I ONLY had see that video when I was living in P.A I would have cleaned up hard. Especially is the poconos.

  19. Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out.

Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!!!!!!!

  20. What brand of door is this? Clopay and general use metal studs inside the door, also the bottom gasket is already installed on the door! Maybe he purchased it at Home Depot or equivalent. I did door for thirty years. So slow.
