DIY Budget Kitchen Remodel part 2

https://amzn.to/2ybBxms there. I’m really happy about this video simply because we’re almost done!
We’ve had a couple of things we had to wait on (that we ordered) and a couple of times we had to adjust our plan. But that’s the way it goes when you’re DIYing and staying on a budget, right?

The changes we’ve made have really improved the function of our kitchen with improved lighting, subway tile that’s easy to clean, a nice deep sink, and easy storage with open shelves.
The shiplap we’ve added to the ceiling and the cabinets gives a custom farmhouse style (heart eyes).

I’m actually surprised at how much I love the wood butcher block countertops. We were originally going with a concrete. But when that didn’t work out, the next budget friendly choice were these countertops. We oiled them with dark tung oil. I love the patina it gives and they’re standing up to all of the hard use around here!

To finish up this kitchen project, we need to get a lot of puttying, and painting done. But at this point, I feel like we’re past the hardest part.

Thanks so much for following along.

  1. Lovely kitchen. Can’t pick a favorite…the subway tile, countertops, island, the view of your yard. Swoon. It really is perfect and, in the end, will not look at all like you did it on a budget. Would love to see an entire house tour when your kitchen is complete.

  2. I just love it all. I think my favorite thing is that it has character! I think new houses feel all alike the cabinets are pretty but that's all there is to them, I hope you know what I mean. I'm not putting down new homes by any means but they just don't have that homey character. I really love the ceiling. I so want subway tile like yours. I probably should just shut up lol, I just love older homes.

  3. Nice! If you're concerned about the bleed-through of those knot holes in your shoplap, consider a shellac-based primer under the paint. I recently painted a pine buffet, and can commiserate!

  4. Ingenious idea for customizing the space. Love the shiplack look. You made smart budget decisions that fit your decor!! Love the sink, the countertops and lighting. Congrats!
