Thick gloves for a start.. Pretty good considering it was your first time welding..
get you a wire feed welder for that top shelf, i think you will be happier with the welds
your air pressure is to high and your amps as well.
what pressure were you running on your welding gas? you shouldn't have sparks jumping off your weld like that , or so much soot around the weld once you finish. you should be using a argon gas for this tig. you should also be ginding the metal clean if it has any coatings on it
My suggestion is keep trying you will get better eventually as everyone does
Holding the rod at the wrong angle and the Electrode as well, but practice with proper instructions will make you better! Been TIG welding for more than 15 years and still learning better techniques myself. But that is a Great looking Shelf!!!
