• I once had frayed wires on my TV because of manufacturer defect was cutting into it, anyway long story short, tried using it not knowing that the wires were jumping, let me tell you about my house electricity...
  240V 80A
  RCD protection
  Built 2010
  Fuses, breakers, about 4 breakers down the line to the transformer...

  I fried the digital electric meter so that it wouldn't count up the KW usage, "how did that happen?" surge went through... outlet breaker, the safety breaker, the mains breaker, that's inside, the outside is a master breaker that comes between the main breaker and the meter.

  NO switches in the house were tripped, I was confused, I went outside and found my master breaker was tripped, the meter still showed life but only when my accountant told me "hey, you have only been paying supply charges for 5 years" I knew there was a problem...

  So glad I didn't kill the transformer but sweet mother, my TV tripped a master switch that was the last protection without tripping those down the line.

  FYI, power outlet's are rated to 15A, the master is rated to 100A, the main breaker is 80A so I have 80A to play with.

  So yes, even though it's USA 120V, I too would turn my head, because I saw how easy it is for frayed wire to cause an explosion.

  For those wondering about the TV, it's no longer in our lives, objects that threaten to blow up transformers is not welcome in my house.
