The BAD and the GOOD from a DIY Kitchen Remodel Ep 12

I reflect on the good and bad things about my design choices in my DIY kitchen remodel. If you are designing your own kitchen, then watch this video and learn about the things I really didn’t like, and the things that I thought went really well. Overall, I’m really happy with our kitchen, but I would change a few things if I were to do it all again.

If you are a woodworker, you can do your own kitchen yourself! I made an entire series on making my own kitchen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iebLNSt-1nA&list=PLqbMbcTzG1FfiElaCsumM7N4jIE70vv_x

I decided to do an advanced inset cabinet design for this kitchen. I really like this look, but if I do another kitchen I’ll go with standard overlay cabinets. They are much easier and faster to build.

  • Very cool.
    - The lack of indication on where to pull would bug me too, especially having guests over and seeing them struggle. Simple fix though if you ever want to do it. Pulls, although not as clean as no-pulls, may end up being more (physically) clean in the long run due to less people touching the wood.
    - As for the cement: You may want to look into the new garage floor coatings out there. They are designed specifically for acids and such and come in clear-coats as well as colors. The latest and greatest (and apparently most awful-smelling install) is something called Polyurea. There's also polyurethane and epoxy which you are quite familiar with. Or just let it stain and accept the added character. ;-)
    - I don't think you mentioned it: But IIRC, that hood is way too high over the stove. Still better to have a high hood vs no-hood though.

  • Looks like a bad design on sink too bad because it looks goo. Over all I love the work you've done

  • Love the look of the countertop! Will you share what materials you used?
