Not only is the textured ceiling look considered outdated, it’s also potentially hazardous to your health. If your ceiling was installed as late as the mid-80s, it may contain asbestos or asbestos-containing materials. To be safe, purchase an EPA-approved asbestos test kit before you start the ceiling removal process: https://thd.co/2nMCGbr

If you’re unsure whether or not your ceiling contains asbestos, you can check by gently scraping a small area with a popcorn ceiling tester scraper: https://thd.co/2vSWqi9

Purchasing the right tools and supplies are essential for proper popcorn ceiling removal. You’ll need a putty knife, joint compound, painter’s tape, spray bottle and drywall compound along with a drop cloth and plastic to protect the walls to get started. • I did this myself and it was miserable. The popcorn and dust turns to mushy glue when wet. It sticks to everything. If you dry scrape it, it turns to a fine powder that flies around the room and settles on every surface. Pay someone to do this for you and save yourself the misery.

  • I will try this in my home living room area. My home is 5 years old so there should not be an asbestos problem. I hope! Nice job.

  • This is very important!!! Thanks for the video.
