  1. I have exactly the same problem. I wanted to replace the light fixture in the basement bathroom. The light had been installed without a box at all. I measured, determined where centre was, cut and discovered the water pipe right smack in the middle of the cut out. I was going to put in a box with the wings that attach to the back of the drywall, but it is way too deep. When I inquired at HD about using that pan box BC56111 for that situation the rep told me that would be not acceptable because there would be a dissimilar metals reaction caused by the galvanized metal box and the copper pipe. I thought I heard a comment about dissimilar metals in your video, but this pan was installed anyway. Just wondering if it could work for my situation, or do I have to move the water pipe?

  2. Love your channels! My wife and I are moving into a new construction in 3 weeks (initial walkthrough tomorrow). I realized that the j-box for the dining room hanging light is not centered… how easy/time consuming will it be for the builders to move the jbox and get the old spot patched up?

  3. Thanks so much, I have the exact same problem, except it's a pvc pipe, 2 or 3" in diameter which will make it tight. I'm thinking about using your method using the shims to create a surface right behind the drywall to which I'll attach the 1/2" electrical box. It's a single romex 3 wire cable, and the fixture is pretty light weight, so I think it'll work .

  4. It is a violation to have 2 wires on the ground screw. You should have pigtailed your new ground with the other bare grounds and used a wire nut. You damn sure should have used a wire nut on the grounds anyways.

  5. This is one of my problems. I like the rope light.
But I wish you would have shown how to connect the actual light to the light box. Thanks so much.

  6. I bought a condo and the previous owner had put in a different cabinet and sink and so I have this same issue presently.  I'm not sure the electrical will reach though so I believe I have to wire a new junction box and then cap over the old one.  Does this sound about right?
