Before you say anything, we do get this question quite often, “Can you MIG weld Stainless Steel to Mild Steel?” The answer is yes, you can, but before doing so you should ask yourself why you are doing it.
Stainless Steel is normally used for its corrosion resistance, which mild Steel does not have. #welddotcom

Paul, Thank you, Thank you. As an ASE Master Tech of 40+ years, being forced into early retirement was not my plan but when the Dr. pulled the plug on me, it took two years to realize he was right. Being 6’3”, bending over fenders and pulling cylinder heads takes its toll, plus a few serious injuries caused by a boss trying to save a buck. Now, vehicles started using unleaded fuel in July of 1979 for the 1980 model year. At some point with catalytic converters creating extreme heat, GM and others started using 304 series exhaust tubing in front of the cat(s) and 400 series pipe back. All of a sudden, very few exhaust repairs came into dealers. Fast forward 40 years, I am on foot but using what works. Welding a “V” band on salvage exhaust & engine from my sons wreck GM800 utility (That’s when you know they are grown/wrecking their own instead the 4 I’ve lost) but only have a MIG from 1984, that at 150 amps, stitch and other features, works great. I wanted to use these “V” bands but can’t afford a spool or new tank. (Much less afford to re-fill what I got) But proper cleaning, dedicated stainless brush I firmly believe due to your video, that a weld will work great. I plan this way in advance, so after-cleaning a cold galvanizing spray like CRC, and perhaps a coating of high heat should last years if maintained. Having one shot to properly place an EFI engine in a 53 year old C10 as my medical joint issues won’t allow me to do much as each year passes. So looking forward to have a daily driver, something I once owned.
