I am finishing my basement and I have a light placement question. I have a roughly 12 x 13 room that has a 4 foot sofit on one wall and a 18 inch sofit on the opposite wall that hide heating ducts and plumbing respectively. I have gone ahead and ran a sofit on each perpendicular wall to create a tray ceiling. The question I have is should I center the light in the room or center it in the tray since the tray is offset in the room?

Good idea although i will probably use the led canisters. Also, there are formulas for the amount of lumens you need for the space and type of light. Great ideas! Didnt know about the basement stair bottom lighting code! This gave me a lot of ideas. Building a closet with 10 ft ceiling where attic access is and 9 ft wide with 6 ft doors. Trying to figure out lighting for that.
Hi. At around 6min, you describe about banding - To get your ceiling frame below the pipes & wiring (if they are below the joists), so that you can install drywall directly to the 2x4 . In my case, my waterline pipes extend 3in below the joists. Can I anchor two 2x4's to the ceiling joists to create a ceiling frame , for my drywall ceiling? Please advise. If so, I intend to screw in the first 2x4 to the joists & then nail the second 2x4 to the first 2x4.
