It’s 8″ high. You will also want to make it deep enough for a recliner if you will be using one. Remember only pressure-treated lumber can be in contact with the cement floor. Later on, I will cut some holes on the face of the step for air to circulate and it will help prevent any moisture build-up. One thing I did that you didn’t see was to paint the floor with Drylok. • Adam ...an additional question if you don't mind ... you placed a 2x6 as a front "step" (plate), nailed down to your treated 2x4 ..did you also have an additional 2x6 "step" (plate) along the back side of the floor? Thanks...

  • New here. What height is you ceiling? I only ask since you are doing an 8" riser. I have a 4" riser but thought it was a bit too low and wanted to go to 6" or 8". My ceiling is almost 9ft. Nice job btw.

  • Adam, I may be missing something simple here. You mention that you have 2x4's (flat) under 2x6's (vertical) around the perimeter, giving you an 8" height. I get that part. But then what do you have as support struts under the bulk of the subfloor, since now it's 8 inches off the ground? Did you use 2x8's in the middle? Also, I'm doing this in an upstairs room on top of carpet. So, I'm actually considering not nailing it down at all. Is that crazy?

  • What if I'm building my riser on ceramic tile. do I still need the pressure treated wood?

  • I am pretty sure you can still buy handbook with all details you need on wood prix.

  • I built my riser based off of your video. First time doing it and it came out really good. Thank you for this video!
