Find out what a soil test will tell you about your garden and what soil amendments you may need. Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium or potash, the three main “macronutrients” , along with soil pH amount of organic material and other trace elements are listed in a good soil test and will inform you as to what type of soil amendments you may need. Organic forms such as manure or greensand are usually preferred to avoid burning the beneficial soil life.

I put truck loads of horse litter into my garden. It was over 6 inches thick Even mixed some in. By the next spring. It was all gone. What can I do to make it last longer?
