DIY Tile Shower |Tub Insert to Stone Tile Wall Shower

Since we bought this house our main bathroom was a tired space with a fiberglass one piece bathtub and shower surround insert. Today we are going to remodel to a DIY Tile Shower and replace the tub insert with beautiful stone subway tile walls.

This was a BIG project, especially since the shower renovation was only part of the project more videos on the bathroom remodel to come (subscribe!) To start I gutted the entire bathroom which started by cutting the sheet rock to expose the bathtub flange so the tub could be removed. The easiest way to get the insert out of the house was to cut it apart! Once that was out I chose to waterproof under the tub, not necessary but why not add more protection to your home if you can, it is not completely waterproof but better than nothing. Then used PEX and tigerbite plumbing fittings to add a new shower/tub mixing valve. Used KERDI-BOARD to waterproof the walls and ALL-SET thin-set to install all the stone look porcelain tile on the walls. I added expansion joint profiles in the inside corners and some beautiful stainless steel round ending profiles for a stunning finished look!

  • Tyler, I’ll definitely keep this video handy when I redo my bathroom next year looks great!

  • Got a great deal on some tile squares... wanting to remodel my walk in... main question: is all tile made the same? Or do I have to have a specific type of tile for showers???

  • Great job Tyler. Your shower will be as sound and dry as they come. I've done 4 of these in different houses and the only suggestion I would have had is to add blocking for a grab bar across the back while you had the wall open. They add a level of safety for everybody, not just old folks, and even if you didn't put it in now the blocking would always be ready for the future.

  • Nice work. Nice explanations. Question: What laser level system did you use?

  • Looks good! I would go with a brush versus the roller on the sealant I have no experience doing it I would just imagine so
