DIY MIG/TIG Welding Cart Part 1: Making the frame

Today, my wife and I are welding again. This time, we are making a welding cart to keep us both from injury when we inevitably trip over all the leads and junk scattered all over the ground. It’s made from 1×1″ square tube, 1/8″ wall thickness. In this part, we build the frame. Later, we’ll add the rest. Probably.

This is designed to hold 2 welders and 2 tanks of gas, my idea is a MIG welder, a TIG welder, C25 tank, and argon tank. Pretty standard stuff, really, but how many guys get their wives to do most of the welding? eh? THAT isn’t very standard, is it?! Anyways if she gets much more practice she will be better than I am. I guess she’ll take over the garage then. Well, it’s been a good run. Nice knowing you all.

We use an eastwood mig175, 030 wire i think, C25 gas at around 15 CFH or something similar. I’m not an expert. If you feel the need to tell me my welds suck, i’ll likely agree with you.

  • I see you drink mug root beer by the liter. I too drink mug root beer

  • your description of how to lead the weld puddle is probably better than half the welding videos i've watched.

  • How do these videos only have 1600 views??? This guy is awesome! Cool that his wife helps out too!

  • Consider selling the Mig 175 and get the Eastwood MP250i unless you want to TIG aluminum, then you'd need a TIG with high frequency start.
