The first step is to plan the Ditra-Heat cable installation per Schluter’s directions. For this project we used 3 stud spacing and kept heat cables at least 2″ away from the wall and shower curb.

In addition, our heat cables were 7″ away from the center of the toilet flange to ensure the wax ring won’t melt.

We also installed two Ditra-Heat sensors, the second was a back up.

All Ditra-Heat seams were waterproofed using Kerdi-Band and Schluter’s ALL-SET. This is especially important at the Schluter curb.

Ditra-Heat can be installed and tiled over in 1 day if done properly.

Watch our video for all the details.

  • I like the Schluter check list for checking resistance value prior to installation and the 2 sensors, great idea. Looks like a quality system.

  • Great job guys!!! Serious, so much useful info., you guys put out!!! I love how the videos move slow enough to where pausing and resuming wouldn't interfere to much with the overall content!! All the info., is presented in a nice even pace!!

  • Great video! I have a question though... I understand the reasoning for keeping the wire away from the toilet flange because it might melt the wax ring... but isn't there an issue with condensation on the outside of the bowl if it heats up?

  • What trowel is used for 1. laying the ditra-heat mat? 2. laying the tile over the ditra-heat mat?

  • Did you use Tile Leveling system w/ the LFT? I contacted Schluter and they said, I need to do a skim coat of Thinset (Unmodified - I am using Ardex X 5) over the Ditra Heat before using them to ensure that the tab left behind is not directly in contact w/ the heating cable.. Thoughts, Inputs, Suggestions?

  • Talking to my local tile shop today- They were telling me that the thermostat needs to be directly connected back at the breaker box and you cant come off an outlet for your electrical connections?

  • Sir: I am
A bit confuse . You do all the test but not the one for insulation of the wires which I think require a MegaOhmeter. Isn’t ?
