Cover Cropping: The LAZIEST Way to Improve Your Soil

Cover crop mix I used: https://bit.ly/3DCvP9o I am a HUGE fan of practical, efficient gardening practices, and cover cropping is an under-utilized one for the home gardener. It’s a fantastic way to prevent erosion, build nutrients, loosen soil, provide habitat, and more. Best of all, it’s DEAD SIMPLE.

  • Bonus info! You can (and should) cover crop your raised beds if you're done for the season vs. leaving the soil bare. I bought a 50lb bag from True Leaf Market: https://bit.ly/3DCvP9o - Also, we are FINALLY back in stock on almost all models of Birdies beds and do not expect to be out of stock ever again: https://shop.epicgardening.com/

  • I never knew they sell mixed bags of cover crops. That's pretty cool.

  • What about cover crops in shady or part shade areas under trees? Major soil erosion, it's sandy and dry...hoping to replenish a bit but unsure what might even grow there , zone 7

  • Hi I am in zone 8a I will like to plant a Issai kiwi ! What do you recommend to improve my soil and care of this plant ? Thanks

  • I live in Los Angeles and Oxalis pes-caprae covers my property from October through March. It will choke out any low growing shrubs, but is it beneficial as a cover crop? Chop and drop OR just let it die back on its own? Any other thoughts on using your weeds?

  • If I have a no till garden then I guess I'd have to pull the cover crop out instead of tilling it in. I don't want to destroy the organisms by tilling the soil. Yes/no?

  • If I still have a place and a garden come next winter i'll try these but how will beans survive freezing temps? It still gets nasty cold in the south
